Rachael DeAnne Montoya, Soprano
Rachael is excited to move to New York City this summer to begin her master's degree in Vocal Performance at New York University! She recently graduated magna cum laude from Boise State University with a Bachelor's degree in Vocal Performance as well as Music Education. Rachael has played piano and sung for over 15 years. She performed the role of Cinderella in Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella with Boise State's Music and Theatre Departments in the Morrison Center last spring. Her previous experiences include Boise State Music Department's production of Henry Purcell's Dido and Aeneas as Belinda and in other shows like Pippin, The 25th Annual Putnam Spelling Bee and The Gondoliers. She has performed in Opera Idaho's resident company for 3 years including La Boheme, Our Town and Pirates of Penzance. She toured as the Queen of the Night (and Papagena) in Opera Idaho's touring Mini Magic Flute, a distilled production sent to local schools as an introduction to opera to all ages! Rachael has also performed for Opera Idaho's Puccini Martini Blast, Art Song Recital Series, and Touring Gardens Shows and other performances all around the Treasure Valley.
Rachael performed in Boise State's Meistersingers for 3 years and was President in 2009-2010. She is currently the Vice President of the SNATS Boise (National Association of Teacher of Singing, Student Chapter). Rachael studied abroad in Italy and was afforded the opportunity to perform in La Traviata in the Tuscia Opera festival, and participated in many other workshops held all over Tuscany.
She was the recipient of the Julia Bauer Holland Memorial Scholarship, the Idaho Governor's Cup Scholarship, the Boise Choristers Scholarship, the Whitney Women's Choral Scholarship and the Magic Valley Rotary Club Scholarship. Rachael won the Boise State Concerto Aria contest her senior year with her performance of Donizetti's O luce di quest' anima, which she was asked to perform with full orchestral accompaniment.
Rachael has been teaching private piano lessons for over 5 years and plans to continue private lessons while continuing her career in professional performing. She plans to attend graduate school this fall for Vocal Performance with an emphasis in Opera at New York University Steinhardt.
